Hart InterCivic Successfully Pilots Electronic Pollbook in Texas
Poll Workers and County Administrators Praise Hart ePollBook for Streamlining Voter Check-In

AUSTIN, Texas – November 4, 2009 – Hart InterCivic, a leading national provider of election management and voting systems, today announced the Hart ePollBook™ was successfully piloted in three Texas counties – Hays, Randall, Hunt – during the just-completed Constitutional Amendment Election. The product allowed poll workers to quickly check-in and verify voters with 100% accuracy and increased efficiency.
Announced in October, the Hart ePollBook is based on technology developed by Scytl Secure Electronic Voting with whom the company has a partnership.
All three counties used the ePollBook during early voting, with Hays County also using it on Election Day. Because the data is securely encrypted, Hays used the Internet to link two of their early voting sites. Randall County connected early voting locations, with equal success, over their private network. With only one early voting location, Hunt County linked multiple pollbooks together offering dual lines for their voters.
Poll workers and county administrators praised the ePollbook for its sleek design and ease-of-use. Voters in Hunt County were pleasantly surprised that they were no longer required to stand in a particular line based on their last name. Almina Cook, Elections Administrator for Hunt County, expressed it best saying: “My early voting poll workers love the ePollBook – they all told me ‘please don’t make us go back to the old way’”.
“We couldn’t be happier with the success of the Hart ePollBook during this election,” said Marcus MacNeill, vice president of products and partnerships for Hart InterCivic. “The pilot program verified we’ve done the right things to streamline polling place operations and we’re ready for a full-scale rollout to other Texas counties.”
